Learning About Transportation - A Gail Gibbons Notebook Companion™

VIEW SAMPLE

Transportation is a critical part of life today. Your kids can learn about how people travel by road, rail, air, water, and more with Learning About Transportation, a Notebook Companion™ to Transportation! by Gail Gibbons, sold separately.

What Students Will Learn

The book and Notebook Companion™ look at different kinds of vehicles people use to travel. There are cars, trucks, and vans such as compact cars, sedans, hatchbacks, two-door pickup trucks, minivans, station wagons, SUVs, coupes, minicars, sports cars, four-door pickup trucks, luxury sedans, and even stretch limousines.

Some people use bicycles, motorcycles, and scooters. And you can’t forget commuter buses, city transit buses, shuttle buses, double-decker buses, minibuses, shared commuter cars, taxis, pedicabs, luxury motor coaches, camper RVs, and RV trailers.

There are trains such as elevated trains, commuter trains, subway trains, monorails, trolleys, and high-speed passenger trains. There are lots of ways to get around in the air, too, such as small propeller planes, large propeller planes, helicopters, float planes, commercial jets, corporate jets, and commuter jets.

But those aren’t the only way people choose to get around! Some use motorboats, cruise ships, sailboats, passenger ferries, water taxis, rowboats, canoes, kayaks, sailboats, yachts, and yawls. There are even things that travel in space like the International Space Station!

Students will practice written narration as they answer our open-ended questions about what they are learning. They’ll also get to draw, sketch, and label various illustrations of all sorts of vehicles people use every day for transportation. Bonus coloring pages are also included!

Another Gail Gibbons Win! The notebook companion went along perfectly with the book. Both my Kindergartner and 3rd grader enjoyed it. The topic of Transportation ended up being fun and really gave my youngest a perspective on real world concepts while opening the door to conversations with my third grader to bigger concepts.

I think you can combine this notebook with the “Learning About Trains” one. They are short and sweet, and your child can easily relate one to the other (with the “trains” being more specialized). You might want to start with “transportation” first before going to “trains”.

There are a lot of spaces for drawing. If you have a child in kindergarten, you can just start with this one right away, especially if they are at the stage of going loco over toy cars!
