Stories of Great Composers

Stories of Great Composers is perfect for students in 4th-8th grade, but it can easily be adapted for younger or older students.

With Stories of Great Composers, students will learn about the lives of:

  • Johann Sebastian Bach
  • Ludwig van Beethoven
  • Frederic François Chopin
  • Edvard Grieg
  • George Frideric Handel
  • Franz Joseph Haydn
  • Franz Liszt
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  • Franz Peter Schubert
  • Robert Schumann
  • Giuseppe Verdi
  • Richard Wagner

Each lesson begins with a story about the composer’s life, including a focus on his childhood. A page is included for the student to draw what they think about as they hear or read the story.

Comprehension questions and a page for written narration follow. Each lesson concludes with dates and map work. The timeline is built on throughout all twelve units so they can see how many of these famous men’s lives overlapped. The map work helps them see where the events of the story took place.

A list of free bonus resources is included as well as two sample schedules you can use to break down the study. An answer key is also included.

Another great job done on Great Composers. I especially love the fact that it has a lot more composers listed all in one spot than some of the other products available elsewhere.
Thank you for making learning so very interesting for both mum and daughter!!

As a mom who plays musical instruments and two girls whom also play, I added this notebook to my cart on a whim. We are having so much fun learning about different composers. Thank you!

  3. An Easy Way to Insert Classical Music Studies

    Katherine Tanyu

We have actually read these books already, however I personally loved it that everything is just compiled in one e-book. The simple notebooking format with the clear questions are motivating for little ones to answer. But do not get me wrong, “Stories of Great Composers” are great even for middle schoolers. This is an easy way to insert classical music studies in your homeschool. The timeline and mapwork are wonderful bonuses.
