Daily Skill Building: Vocabulary
Are you looking for an independent open-and-go curriculum that will enhance your student’s vocabulary? Daily Skill Building: Vocabulary is a complete, 36-week vocabulary curriculum for grades 1-7. This simple, straight-forward approach to vocabulary building is easy to use and encourages independent study. The format is designed to be flexible — meaning you can assign more than one word a day if you wish to complete it sooner.
Volume 6 is for 6th grade. The Second Edition has 202 pages in black and white to save on ink.
Each week presents four new words (one per day) with a weekly review on day five. Your student will be asked to define the new word using a dictionary, use it in a sentence, and list synonyms and antonyms. Every 4th week includes an additional review using the most recent 16 words studied plus a short writing assignment (for grades 1-3 this is 2 sentences and an area to draw an illustration. Grades 4-7 require more writing). You can see the sample of the unit review for this level by clicking the button above.
For your convenience, we include a glossary of words by week and order studied. Students may use either the glossary for their daily assignments or a dictionary. We recommend the Webster’s For Students Dictionary/Thesaurus set as well as thesaurus.com and dictionary.com.
Vocabulary Cards
There are two formats for the Vocabulary Cards that accompany each Volume of Daily Skill Building: Vocabulary. The first format includes the word, along with the week and day for easy reference, as well as the definition. The second card has the word, along with the week and day and blank lines for the student to write the definition. The Vocabulary Cards can be laminated for durability and used for retention and review.

Ordered the bundle for grades 6-8 which you will see this same review on those bundles. I had a SELF issue with ordering & they didn’t make me feel like an idiot. The Curriculum is a simple open and go with 1 word a day & designed for kids to actually retain the info. I have changed according to MY kids. Day 1: Complete Day 1-4 top portion only. Day 2: Complete the bottom portion
Day 3: Complete day 5 Review. The words are challenging but aren’t difficult to where they want to quit. Spelling is created start the week after vocab. The spelling engages the definition so the kids are really working on spelling the words and vocab for about 2 weeks and don’t even realize it or feel bored with it. My kids do Day 1 and 2 for Day 1. On day 2 they complete Day 3, then complete the pre-test and take the test, or go straight for the test if they believe they do not need to take the pre-test. So not only will the kids have a refresher on the previous week vocabulary by completing the spelling, they will be introduced to new vocabulary words. You don’t have to buy both but I honestly recommend getting both because they work together. I love the fact that it is digital so I was able to print it instantly without have to wait. If I am able to update my comment and remember I will advise after using this for a full school year. The kids vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension skills have already improve within the first 2 month of using this. They even come to me and will say “Hey, I keep hearing and seeing words I am learning and can understand what’s being said”

We have used this package for 2 years now and love the ease and the progression of the program. My son’s use of this package has made a big difference in his writing and his spelling ability. His independence in completing this is very helpful to me. I highly recommend this program!!

As a busy homeschooling mom of 10, I like that this vocabulary workbook is open and go. My daughter will independently look up the daily words and follow the clear directions on each page to become familiar with each day’s new vocabulary words. Each daily assignment takes her about ten minutes. It is the perfect workbook to continue her learning while I am busy helping one of her siblings. Every homeschooling momma needs that type of workbook in her toolbelt! Additionally, the workbook includes two types of vocabulary cards- one that is preprinted and one with a space for the student to write the definition in their own words. The corresponding spelling workbook encourages daily practice of the previous week’s vocabulary words, along with other words that the child found difficult. I like that there is room to add words that I have found that she needs to practice. This combination of workbooks is a helpful addition to our homeschool.

This is an awesome vocabulary and spelling bundle that assures me my kids get a comprehensive LA experience that also teaches them to be independent learners which is critical for upper grades to come. I realize I don’t know everything. * smiles*
