One thing that I love about this 10-day Advent study is that the daily devotionals can be fit in on any 10 days before Christmas- And they don’t have to be consecutive! So we can miss a day, and that’s okay! This Sunday when I told my 7-year-old daughter that it was the first day of Advent she asked, “What is Advent?” so I opened this study and that question was answered right in the introduction in a concise and relatable way that I was basically able to narrate verbatim. It comes with scripture memory cards, some adorable coloring pages, and a buildable nativity scene (you can either print in color or print the B&W version for your child to color). This is a simple and fun study that I can see using again in the years to come.

This is a short, encouraging ten-day advent study with thought-provoking questions that will help all the family to ponder the meaning of Jesus’ birth and the free gift of salvation for everyone who asks Him into their hearts as Lord and Saviour. The study looks at faith, hope, joy and peace and will serve as a reminder of God’s faithfulness and goodness towards us.

For each day of the “Preparing Your Heart For Christmas” advent devotional, there is a passage of scripture to read, short devotional reading, memory verse (scripture memory cards to print off are included in the back), reflection questions and space for a written narration to write down thoughts, all of which I would consider suitable for children of any age and not just the target age range of K-4; the devotional is insightful and together with the questions, I think will lead to meaningful family discussions and help keep the focus of Christmas on Jesus. For younger children, there are also colouring pages and smaller pictures to either colour in or print out in colour, cut out and stick onto a larger sheet of paper to create a nativity scene.

The study also includes a link to free Jesse Tree ornaments printables from Daily Skill Building’s sister site, homeschoolgiveaways.com, which is full of wonderful ideas to learn/remember the stories of the lineage of Jesus and how the people and events of the Old Testament lead to the birth of the Christ of Christmas. I think this is a beautiful tradition that I plan to take up with my family starting with this Christmas!

This is a pretty great resource! I have kids ages preschool through 5th grade. We can do this as a family devotional. There are 10 days worth of devotions. We are planning on doing 1 devotion a day during our Christmas school. Each day there is a short page to read followed by the reflectional responses. I plan on using these reflections as a place to start our discussions. My littler children will enjoy the coloring pages as well as the scene builder pages. They like to re-enact the stories we read and this is a great way to reinforce the story of Jesus’ birth. I like the Scripture memory cards that go along with the 10 day devotional. We will use these for copy work or for calligraphy practice.

Every day is so short and quick and easy to accomplish. The questions are short and easy to understand. Your child can answer the questions orally or write them down on the pages provided. I like that it has a space for written narration. It acts as a reminder for me (the parent) that there are many ways the child can show comprehension. The scripture memory cards are already provided in pages 25-28–just print and go! If you are craftsy, you can paste them on cardstock and do whatever you like. Coloring pages and a scene builder are also included in the end. Maybe you would like to do a mini project after the devotional? The scene builder is just print-cut-paste. Easy peasy.

Even if the recommended ages are for grades K-4, the whole family (not just the little ones) can participate and benefit.

Exactly as described. This is laid out nicely to be followed for two weeks. The scripture cards would be great to print and laminate to reuse. The Advent scene builder includes two options, pages you can choose to print and have your child color or printable pages that are already in color.
