Discovering American History - Native Americans
Dive deep into the history and culture of fifteen Native American tribes, one region at a time. Students can learn about Native American ways of life, food, clothing, daily chores, and more, as well as the history of each tribe as they discover Native Americans of the Arctic, Northwest Coast, and Plateau (Aleut, Salish, and Nez Perce), California and the Southwest (Pomo, Apache, and Navajo), Plains and Great Basin (Arapaho, Crow, Sioux, Paiute, and Shoshone), and Northeast and Southeast (Iroquois, Sauk and Fox, Cherokee, and Seminole). A brief look at more than a dozen other Native American tribes is also included. Each of the fifteen cultures is explored and illustrated. The text is in black and white, but optional full-color pages designed to show students the artistry and environment of each tribe are included at the end of the unit that can be printed or displayed on a computer or other device.
Four activities are included that challenge students to design a home or building using available resources as the Native Americans of the north did, to design a basket that tells a story as the Apache did, to record a piece of oral history as tribes of the Great Plains did, and to design a piece of clothing that is functional and looks nice as many tribes did.
Forty review questions to help with reading comprehension of the material studied and an answer key are also included. 147 pages.
