Janice Hiler –
The Ecology Student Notebook is a great way to complete the set of this MasterBooks series since MB did not include it in their own workbooks. The MB version of other books in this series is similar in format of vocabulary and questions, but the MB version also includes the quizzes and final exam as well as writing prompts and projects. Both versions are very open and go and expect the student to write out complete thoughts and drawings to show what they learned. I was pleased with how well this flowed for finding answers as I read along. Having done some MB versions in other books in this series, I found them comparable with this version being perhaps slightly easier. (Our methodology was different between the two versions which could account for some variety in perceived difficulty.) I’m very happy to have this to complete our set of the series. I think it would be easy enough to decide pacing for the student for scheduling. While I do wish there were quizzes and tests, I understand that doesn’t fit the principle of notebooking necessarily, and I can easily create a new style of assessment midway or at the end for my student to showcase retention in their own way. I do like the options of the vocabulary being written at the beginning of each chapter as well flash cards formatted at the end of the notebook for us to create a quick review method.
